Discussion Questions
1. Discuss themes from Genesis as they appear in the novel. How do the historical setting and characters relate to Eden, Adam & Eve, and the serpent? Discuss the Fall of the characters, both literally and figuratively.
2. Which characters experienced redemption in the novel? Why is justice served through these characters?
3. Compare and contrast Meghan and Catherine.
4. Discuss the theme of familial betrayal in the novel, and the effects on the characters' relationships.
5. What surprised you about the historical setting of the novel?
6. What was the role of the supernatural in the novel? Who was the ghost, or was there a ghost? Did the supernatural elements of the novel enhance or take away from your enjoyment of the novel?
7. Discuss the character arcs of Meghan & Catherine. How did they change during the novel?
8. Discuss the theme of blindness in the novel. When do we literally and figuratively see blind characters? When does Catherine begin to see, continue to see, and ultimately, come to understand everything about her family? What moment marks the turning point in the novel, and what does it symbolize?
